The Truth About Love
Love at its beginning
is fantasy and untouched desire.
It is the longing and hope
of what the future will bring.
Love in its infancy is
nothing more than a dream.
Love that burns with intensity and flame
capturing the eye and holding tight to desire.
But when the candle lays smoldering
and the flame turns to embers and ash,
all that remains is the
central core of truest love.
This love moves beyond all of the dramatics.
it is a work in progress,
constantly growing and evolving.
This love is traumatic,
searingly painful at times.
It is the conscious choosing of
two individuals daily
to share themselves with one another.
It is triumph and victory
and failure combined.
The weeping and crying
and heaven intertwined.
It is work that is hard
and frustrating at times.
It is recognizing the temptation
and turning a blind eye.
It is the greatest of commitments
and blending of two souls.
The recognizing at its end
the gifts that you hold.
Love is a choice, like any other in life,
to commit or to stand alone,
neither wrong or right.
Love encompasses all of this
and much more than mere words.
Its truth, put quite simply,
you must work for what you earn.
