A Reality of Illusion
I have heard it asked by many,
who were seeking still and longing
for the missing piece that would
fill the void each feels in their hearts.
'Who am I? What is this illusive thing
I yearn for to fulfill my potential?'
Some, in desperation, seek out love
as a steadfast crutch only
to find themselves later disappointed
when neither their partner nor ther feelings
live up to their expectations.
Others fill their lives with vice,
wallowing in the material, with such things as
drugs, alcohol, sex, or gambling.
And on the road of luck
and the physical pleasure of the now,
they walk blindly to their own destruction.
But what we each, as individuals,
fail to see and comprehend is
that we each came into this world whole.
And that even in our darkest moments,
when we are laid bare by all
of our mounting sorrow,
still we are complete and whole.
It is the emptiness, the sorrow,
and the tragedies of this world
that are the illusions
for which we bind ourselves to.
We, each of us, are born of spirit,
and from the depths of the end of our days,
we return to spirit form.
And from birth to death
we are all unique in our completion
and bound together in our struggle for understanding
through that cycle of life.
No matter the burden you bear,
the sorrow you feel,
the darkness you walk in,
or the lessons and trials you must
suffer, survive, and learn from,
you are complete.
You are whole.
And you never truly walk alone.
And then I have heard in response,
'How can one be whole and complete
when pain that binds our hearts
is so very real? It is not illusion,
it is reality, and you speak nonsense.'
But if it is the pain that binds us,
then it surely blinds us to the truth, as well.
It is the truth of our own divine completion
that has been with us all along,
but so blatant was it,
that we failed to notice it
for one reason or another.
Personal sorrow, social pressure
and obligations, religious teachings.
It is only when we look beyond
the self absorption of our own perspective world
that ultimately we see the truth that was there all along,
patiently waiting for our notice.
And it is with the acceptance of truth that
the world changes before our eyes
and the life of yesterday becomes
the miracle of tomorrow.
